According to the legal provisions under the Occupational Safety and Health (Plant Requiring Certificate of Fitness) Regulations 2024, Regulation 12(1) stipulates that an owner or occupier must ensure that any steam boiler is under the control of a competent person who is either employed as a steam boiler engineer or acts as a visiting steam boiler engineer, as specified in the Twelfth Schedule.

Accordingly, all steam boiler engineers are required to apply for competency from the Department to be authorized to take control of steam boilers in their respective workplaces. One of the main conditions for registration as a Competent Person (Steam Boiler Engineer) is to attend and pass a training course conducted by a training provider recognized by the Department.

Therefore, to ensure the quality and standard of training provided, approval will only be granted to training provider who meet the criteria set by the Department.
