Design of Lift, Escalator, and Walkalator

A lift refers to a lifting machine with traction, positive, or hydraulic drive, which operates at defined levels and has a carrier that moves along rigid guides inclined at an angle greater than 15 degrees to the horizontal, or along a fixed path even if it does not move along rigid guides, for the purpose of carrying persons only, or persons and goods. It does not include lifts with a rated speed of less than 0.15 meters per second.

A walkalator refers to a lifting machine for transporting persons, in which the user-carrying surface remains parallel in all directions of movement and is uninterrupted.

An alteration to a lift refers to any change in the travel distance, car size, rated speed, or rated load of the lift.
