Continuing Education Program (CEP) Points System
Under Regulation 8 of the Occupational Safety and Health (Occupational Safety and Health Officers) Regulations 1997, Occupational Safety and Health Officers who have been registered with the Department are required to attend at least one continuing education programme within a period of one year for the purpose of renewal of registration. The definition of a Continuing Education Programme (CEP) is limited to attending a course recognised by the Department with a total of 15 points.
However, since the Safety and Health Officer (SHO) is also involved in other activities related to occupational safety and health such as promotion, development of standards or guidelines, and also competency development. Therefore, the Department has expanded the definition of CEP to six (6) items that enable the SHO to comply with this Regulation 8. The expansion of this definition can be found in the Guidelines for the Points Calculation System for Continuing Education Programs.
Therefore, the continuing education program registration guide only refers to Article 4.3 in the Guidelines for the Points Calculation System for Continuing Education Programs, which is the organization of 2 days of courses, seminars, conferences, dialogues, workshops, conventions or talks on continuous professional development for occupational safety and health to obtain Department recognition only.
