Safety and Health Officer Training Center
Based on the provisions of law 29(3) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 which states that safety and health officers shall be employed solely for the purpose of ensuring proper compliance in the workplace and promoting the safe conduct of work in the workplace. Meanwhile, under the provisions of law 29(4) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 which states that Safety and Health Officers possess any qualifications or have received any training prescribed by the Minister from time to time through notification in the Gazette.
In this regard, the Safety and Health (Safety and Health Officers) Regulations 1997 came into force on 22 August 1997. This regulation aims to ensure that employers from the classes or types of industries specified in the Occupational Safety and Health (Safety and Health Officers) Order 1997 employ a safety and health officer for the purpose of managing matters relating to workplace safety and health. The duties of a Safety and Health Officer refer to Regulation 18 under the Safety and Health (Safety and Health Officers) Regulations 1997.
Under Regulation 4 of the Safety and Health (Safety and Health Officers) Regulations 1997 it is stated that no person shall act as a safety and health officer unless he has been registered with the Director General. The Director General is the Director General of the Department of Occupational Safety and Health.
