Guide to Obtaining Approval for the Design and Installation of Lifts, Escalators and Moving Walks (under the Electric Lifts (Passenger and Goods) Factory and Machinery Regulations, 1970)
Introduction
The installation of electric passenger lifts, escalators and moving walkways must obtain machinery design approval from the Occupational Safety and Health Department, Industrial Safety Division, Headquarters.
Provisional Regulations
Elevator installation companies are required to obtain approval from this Department for each elevator installation as provided for in the Factories and Machinery Act, 1967, under the Electric Elevators (Passenger and Goods) Factories and Machinery Regulations, 1970.
Purpose
This brochure is issued to guide applicants to know the procedures for approving the installation of elevators so that the installation of the elevator is safe for users. This department ensures that the design and installation of these elevators comply with the requirements of the Electric Elevators (Passenger and Goods) Factory and Machinery Regulations, 1970.
Application Requirements
Applicants who wish to obtain elevator design and installation approval must have the following qualifications:-
» Registered with this department as a Company that Installs and Maintains Elevators, Escalators and Moving Walks.
» Have at least one (1) Competent Person who is still active with the company and recognized by this department.
For the purpose of applying for Elevator, Escalator and Moving Walkway Design Verification and Elevator Approval Change applications, applications must be made via the MySkud platform.
