Occupational health

Introduction

The Occupational Health Division is responsible for enforcing the provisions of legislation relating to Occupational Health in Malaysia. This division also plays a role in promoting health and health protection in every workplace.

Apart from enforcement, health promotion among employers and employees is an important core to encourage healthy work practices and subsequently create a healthy workplace free from occupational diseases.

This division consist of a Medical Officers, Nurses, and Assistant Environmental Health Officer (Health Inspector). This division is divided into two (2) sections, namely the Recognition Section and the Occupational Medicine Section.

Monitor notifications of occupational diseases and occupational poisoning and assist in the investigation of such cases at the state level.
Analyze occupational disease and occupational poisoning data reported to the Department, coordinate related data from other agencies involved, and subsequently provide national occupational disease and occupational poisoning statistics.
Provide input on occupational health issues to other government agencies, departments or ministries.
Promote and monitor the implementation of the Code of Practice on the Prevention and Management of HIV/AIDS in the Workplace, as well as the Code of Practice on the Prevention and Eradication of Drug, Alcohol and Substance Abuse in the Workplace.
Planning and conducting seminars, workshops, and courses to promote occupational health awareness.
Conducting occupational disease investigations for compensation ex-gratia government employees when there is an application from the Malaysian Ministry of Finance.
Carrying out Basic Occupational Health (BOH) Programs, especially in the Small and Medium Industry sector.
Conducting Health Screening Programs (MyHess) and organizing First Aid Programs at the workplace for Department staff

Register and renew Occupational Health Doctor competency certificates under Section 31_C and Section 31_E Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994.
Monitor Occupational Health activities carried out by Occupational Health Doctors, especially Medical Surveillance Programs, audiometric testing and reporting of occupational diseases.
Conduct workplace investigations regarding the implementation of the Medical Surveillance Program, including compliance with Medical Removal Protection (MRP) as well as compliance with other aspects of occupational health.
Plans and holds seminars, courses or dialogues to promote occupational health awareness.
Providing advisory services to state offices, external agencies, health practitioners, occupational safety and health (OSH) practitioners and the public regarding occupational health issues.
