Industrial and ergonomic hygiene department

Introduction

The Industrial Hygiene Division carries out the following work activities:
• Implementing activities related to the recognition of competent persons (CP) and responsible persons (RP).
• Carrying out approval activities for personal protective equipment (PPE), industrial hygiene monitoring equipment, engineering controls, audiometric testing centers, and laboratories for analysis and processes hazardous to health.
• Identifying industrial hygiene and ergonomic hazards and developing assessment and monitoring methods to be implemented by state offices.
• Planning and monitoring Industrial Hygiene and Ergonomic activities at the state offices.
• Conducting maintenance and calibration activities for the department’s industrial hygiene and ergonomic equipment.

  • Processing Registration and Renewal of Industrial Hygiene Competent Persons (CP):
    • Noise Risk Assessor (NRA)
    • Hygiene Technician II (HT2)
    • Authorized Gas Tester & Entry Supervisor (AGTES)
  • Monitoring the Performance of Industrial Hygiene CP
    • Evaluation is conducted through assessment of work reports, interviews at DOSH offices, or on-site observations.
  • Processing Registration and Renewal of Training Centres and Trainers for the following competency courses:
    • Confined Space Entry Safety Course (AGTES and AESP)
    • Noise Risk Assessor (NRA) Course
    • Hygiene Technician II (HT2) Course
  • Monitoring the Performance of Training Centres and Trainers
    • Regular performance reviews are conducted for AGTES & AESP courses, NRA course, and HT2 course trainers and centres.
  • Developing and Conducting Competency Courses
    • Preparation of modules and implementation of industrial hygiene competency training programmes for DOSH officers.
  • Developing and Reviewing Standards
    • Formulation and periodic review of standards relating to Training Centres and Industrial Hygiene CP.
  • Database Management
    • Supervision and maintenance of the Industrial Hygiene CP database on the Department’s official website.
  • Data Collection and Analysis
    • Gathering and analysing CP performance monitoring data submitted by state DOSH offices.
  • Evaluation and approval of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Audiometric Testing Centre (ATC).
  • Developing and periodically reviewing standards related to PPE and ATC.
  • Oversight of agencies responsible for inspecting and testing PPE to ensure compliance with established standards.
  • Investigating complaints related to PPE and ATC matters.
  • Providing expert assistance and equipment for industrial hygiene research studies.
  • Organising and executing training sessions or courses on hazard control measures.
  • Drafting technical specifications for the procurement of PPE based on current departmental requirements.
  • Offering expert advice and issuing guidelines related to hazard control practices.
  • Managing PPE equipment under the Industrial Hygiene & Ergonomic Division for internal departmental use.
  • Monitoring and recording the movement of consumables and capital assets in and out of the Industrial Hygiene and Ergonomics Division equipment store.
  • Managing the disposal process for obsolete or damaged Industrial Hygiene and Ergonomic monitoring equipment.
  • Planning and coordinating the calibration and verification of Industrial Hygiene and Ergonomic equipment at the Headquarters and State Offices.
  • Ensuring that all equipment under the Industrial Hygiene and Ergonomics Division is functional and well-maintained.
  • Organising and participating in exhibitions to showcase Industrial Hygiene and Ergonomic equipment.
  • Providing technical advice and assistance on equipment usage and management.
  • Preparing technical specifications for the procurement of Industrial Hygiene and Ergonomic equipment.
  • Collecting and analysing equipment usage data at the Headquarters.
  • Handling the registration of Training Centres and Trainers for the Ergonomic Risk Management Course, as well as for Ergonomic Trained Persons (ETP).
  • Monitoring the performance of Training Centres, Course Trainers, and Ergonomic Trained Persons.
  • Conducting ergonomic risk assessments at workplaces.
  • Providing ergonomic technical support to State DOSH offices and the public sector (as needed).
  • Coordinating the Industrial Hygiene Section Heads Meeting (KaSIH).
  • Collecting, preparing, and maintaining the performance database of the Industrial Hygiene Section at the State Offices.
  • Planning and conducting training and courses under the scope of Industrial Hygiene and Ergonomics (HIE).
  • Providing technical support in hazard monitoring activities conducted by State Offices.
  • Conducting monitoring and research activities related to Industrial Hygiene and Ergonomic (HIE) hazards and emerging issues.
  • Investigating and monitoring complaints related to HIE issues.
  • Developing and enhancing checklists for HIE assessment and monitoring activities.
  • Creating Hazard Management Procedures (HazMep) specific to HIE. Hazard Management Procedure (HazMep) khusus untuk HIE.
  • Developing compliance standards, guidelines, and codes of practice for ergonomics.
  • Ergonomic Promotion Programmes
  • Identifying and preparing specifications for ergonomic equipment used in workplace assessments.
