Grade 1 and 2 Internal Combustion Engine Drives

Referring to Section 29 of the Factories and Machinery Act 1967, certain machinery shall not be operated without certified personnel. In this section, the machinery referred to is as interpreted as machinery in the general interpretation of Section 3 of the Factories and Machinery Act 1967 and every occupier shall ensure that the specified machinery is under the care of a certified engineer, dredger or dredger. The engineer, dredger or dredger referred to is a person who holds a certificate of competency as an engineer, dredger or dredger or has a written authority issued by the Chief Inspector.

For Internal Combustion Engine (ECE) machinery, there are 2 driver or caretaker competencies issued by the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOH), namely, driver grade 1 and driver grade 2:

  •  i. Registration of Competent Persons (OYK) to Drive Internal Combustion Engines Grade 1
    According to subregulation 3, Regulation 6, Factories and Machinery (Persons in Charge) Regulations (Amendment) 2014, it is for any person who is in charge of an internal combustion engine in any installation with a maximum rated output exceeding one thousand kilowatts and not exceeding five thousand kilowatts (1000kilowatts > engine rated output < 5000 kilowatts). 
  • ii. Registration of Competent Persons (OYK) to Drive Internal Combustion Engines Grade 2 
    According to subregulation 2, Regulation 6, Factories and Machinery (Persons in Charge) Regulations (Amendment) 2014, it is for any person who is in charge of an internal combustion engine in any installation with a maximum rated output of more than five hundred kilowatts but not exceeding one thousand kilowatts (500kilowatts > engine rated output < 1000 kilowatts).

Grade 1 Application

Grade 1 Application
